Shots fired at officer while making a traffic stop

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - A Nicholasville Police Officer avoided injury after shots were fired at him while trying to make a stop early Saturday morning.

Authorities say the officer was making a traffic stop on a motorcyclist on Nicholasville Road near the old drag strip when the man shot at him and raced away.

The officer was uninjured and Lexington Police say they were called to assist as both police departments searched for the man.

Several roads at the county line were blocked off, including Harrodsburg Road and Nicholasville Road while Police stopped motorcyclists as they tried to locate the suspect. A helicopter was also dispatched along with K-9 units to assist in the search.

The suspect is only described as a black male, wearing a black vest with green writing on it.
