Slogan contest offers $100 prize

The Lexington Division of Parks & Recreation and the Tweens Coalition want you to come up with a catchy slogan to help sell its expanded line of fresh, healthy food at local pools and other recreational facilities in the city.

Food like grilled chicken wraps, all-fruit popsicles, string cheese, Craisins, sunflower seeds, bottled water and fresh fruit will be sold at concession stands at select Lexington city pools this summer. Right now they’re called Better Bites. They were tested last year at Southland and Woodland Aquatic Centers.

Combo meals come in Kids Meals and Adult Meals and consist of a sandwich, fresh fruit and bottled water. Other sandwiches include a chicken salad sandwich and a grilled chicken sandwich. Baked chips and yogurt parfaits are also on the menu.

“Statistics show that one-third of children are overweight and this has become a national health crisis,” said Brian Rogers, Parks deputy director for enterprise. “We want to offer both parents and their children healthier food options which we hope will lead to good eating habits that will last a lifetime.”

If you come up with a catchy slogan that is selected for use, you can win $100, plus two season passes to Lexington’s public pools and lunch with Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.

It’s easy to enter. Just submit your slogan of seven words or less to anitac@qx.net or Better Bites contest, 2230 Delmar Avenue, Lexington, Ky. 40508 by March 31, 2012. The winner will be selected by April 10 and will be notified by mail.
