Special guest sits on UK's bench during Transy game

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Monday night's UK game against Transy had a special meaning for the family of a Kentucky boy who lost his battle with cancer in October.

Lane Goodwin's dad, George Goodwin, got to sit on the UK bench as an honorary assistant coach.

He even gave the Rupp Arena crowd the thumbs up sign that meant so much to his 13-year-old son.

"We really just want to bring awareness. Childhood Cancer Awareness is something that we promised our son, and we're going to do that for the rest of our lives. So, it's true every father wants to give their son guidance, well, it turned around. My 13-year-old gave us guidance," George Goodwin told WKYT at the game.

A fan at the John Calipari Fantasy Camp had the top bid to be an honorary assistant coach at the game, but he gave his spot on the bench to George Goodwin, in honor of Lane.
