LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - People in central Kentucky are continuing to prepare for whatever the winter weather brings their way. Slick driving conditions were certainly a concern earlier Sunday along with the loss of power.

When it comes to winter in Kentucky, you can't be too prepared.

"It's always good to play on the offense because when we play on the defense, we come up empty handed," said Matthew Powell, an employee at Home Depot in Lexington. "A whole tractor trailer full of nothing but the storm responder generators and then they sent us more kerosene heaters, and we've got propane heaters."

Now in most parts of central Kentucky, you'll see wet but clear roads. That doesn't mean you're out of danger. Ice can weigh down utility lines, knocking out power to thousands at once and proving ice can cause more problems than just slick roads.

"We're ready for anything from power lines being down for extended periods of time from power outages, cutting things down keeping them trimmed back, and tarps to cover property for insurance," said Powell.

So are you prepared to lose power? If not, now is the time to stock up, not after you're already in the dark. The pile of supplies at Home Depot is taller than me and you, so they aren't running out anytime soon, especially after the store received an emergency shipment last night.

"You've got your actual kerosene heaters. And you've got your kerosene containers. And actually premade kerosene too," said Powell.

Hundreds from all over central Kentucky have visited this particular Home Depot in Lexington over the past couple days, shopping in preparation.

"Since the 2002 and 2009 ice storms that just wiped us out, that's the reason we have this," said Powell.

Thousands of people were without power earlier Sunday in central Kentucky, but power has since been restored.
