The start of the school year here at Tates Creek Middle School means new classrooms, new lockers, and even a new principal.
The students and teachers were excited to see the changes on the first day of the new school year.
Last year, there were fourteen portables outside. But this year, all of the classrooms are inside.
"We will not miss battling the weather, battling the elements every single day. Whether it was 100 degrees or 30 degrees, " says Eric Thornsbury, principal at Tates Creek Middle.
Missy Schmidt is a teacher at Tates Creek and is excited to have one of the new classrooms, "It's refreshing to have a brand new start. We had some space issues. And so now it just seems like we have lots more room. Every thing is new and I think the kids are going to love it."
The enthusiasm for a new beginning here spread throughout the halls of Tates Creek Middle, as friends were reunited after a summer apart.
"We really strive to make the kids feels like they are part of the family. And so really want them to come to school and to see that it's not so much of a pain, but more of a joy and that they will realize how much we care about them," says Schmidt.
Construction work outside of the building is still underway but it expected to be complete soon.
Enrollment numbers are up at Tates Creek Middle School, with 100 new students for this school year.
