Supply improving; need still exists

The supply of negative blood types has improved, but Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) officials say it’s too soon to relax.
“We are so grateful to all of the donors who came in and gave blood when they heard our need. We’ve had an especially good turnout of donors with negative blood types,” said Martha Osborne, Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment. “Only seven percent of the population has O negative blood, but last week more than 12% of those who donated with KBC were O negative. If that trend continues, we’ll be in good shape.”

Donating blood makes you happy, happy, happy!

To help encourage donors and to also have some fun, KBC is hosting Duck Dynasty Week this week.

Everyone who registers to donate at all KBC locations through Aug. 16 is automatically entered to win two tickets to see the stars of Duck Dynasty at the Kentucky State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 25.

In addition, Andover Donor Center donors can win daily prizes throughout the week.

On Wednesday the Beaumont Donor Center will host a Duck Dynasty Premier Party from 3 to 7 p.m. Donors can play games, win prizes and enjoy special refreshments.

Donors can give at the following donor centers or find a KBC blood drive by visiting kybloodcenter.org or calling 800.775.2522.
