Toddlers found alone, Lexington father charged

A father is facing charges after police found two toddlers wandering along a Lexington road.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in jail after police say two toddlers in his care were found wandering outside, alone.

Someone called police after seeing the two boys out alone off South Eagle Creek Drive around 9:45 Tuesday night. According to a police report, officers found the toddlers, who appeared to be in good condition. Officers then attempted to track down the parents.

Police finally found the father of the children, James Adam Peters, inside the Cove Lake Village Apartments. Police say he was asleep. According to the police report, officers also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in another room of the apartment that was within plain sight.

Peters was taken into custody. He is charged with two counts of first degree wanton endangerment, along with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Peters is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday.

Family Services was called out to the apartment. Police were unable to say if the toddlers were released back into family custody.

We're told by police that the mother was at work at the time of the incident.
