LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - On Tuesday, the Urban County Council talked about some structural problems found at the old Fayette County Courthouse.
Engineers say they found water damage in the roof of the basement. They also found some of the beams in the basement had deteriorated. Engineers also say all four balconies of the old courthouse need to be shored up.
On Tuesday, the council was given an overview of the problems. Council member Ed Lane said more should have been done to prevent them.
"When we go back to renovate the building in the future, it's going to be a lot more expensive. So our failure to properly protect it is going to be costing the taxpayer money. And that makes me unhappy too," says Urban Council County Member Ed Lane.
More inspections of the old courthouse are being planned. City leaders hope to have a repair plan by December for the council to vote on.
