Much of Tates Creek Road in Lexington has reopened following a major water main break Tuesday morning.
Lexington city officials say both outbound lanes of Tates Creek Road are now open at Gainesway Drive, but the outbound left turn lane at that intersection is still closed.
The left inbound lane of Tates Creek Road has also reopened there, but city officials say the right lane is still closed.
The Gainesway Drive approach to Tates Creek Road also remains closed.
Around 4 a.m., a 12-inch water main broke at Gainesway Drive, sending water gushing onto the road.
Kentucky American Water officials say a contractor doing some excavation work in the area Monday nicked the 12 inch main, which eventually caused the main to break Tuesday morning.
Officials had planned to fix the nick on the main, but it broke before they were able to do that.
Officials say 35 homes have been impacted by the water main break.
Kentucky American Water officials say they will notify customers who will lose water service because of repairs, or if they should have to boil their water.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the right inbound lane of Tates Creek Road was still closed.
