LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - On this wet Thursday night, trick-or-treating was nearly a bust.

"I thought it was like a big curse," said one child who wrote off a chance at getting candy.

For some kids, the idea of going to mall isn't always fun.

"Not really," admitted Drew McConnell, but throw some candy his way and save Trick-or-treating, well that changes everything.

"It's fun, I guess."

The Fayette Mall was one of a few Lexington locations offering a dry solution to the wet weather and the crowds took notice.

"It's been fun, a lot of folks out tonight, trying to avoid the weather and have a great time with Halloween," answered Andy McConnell, Drew's father.

"It's really something to celebrate and, for us parents, we do it for them (the kids) so we appreciate the mall having this for us," said parent, Brittany Johnson.

With hundreds of trick-or-treaters coming out, the stores did everything they could to keep the candy supply going. But with that many kids, there's only so much the stores could do.

"A lot of people, but not a lot of candy. I think that's because Lexington canceled trick-or-treating tonight, so everybody came to the mall," described Sean Van Vlack.

"The weather is so bad, I guess everybody wanted to come out to the mall," noted Nicole Smith.

However, that's easy to look past for the kids once the candy starts coming their way.

"Anything for the kids is enjoyable," summed up Smith.
