A University of Kentucky employee, who is accused of holding up four banks in the last two years, entered a not guilty plea in court today.

Crystal Little, 29, was arrested Saturday after Lexington Police say she held up the PNC Bank in Tates Creek Centre.

She is also suspected of wearing a surgical mask to rob three other banks around the city since 2010.

Little works as an administrative support associate in the Office of Research Integrity.

A friend of her's said Little has been struggling financially for several years now.

"There is no explanation, other than she did this out of pure desperation," said Melinda Belleville.

Belleville sat in the courtroom today as her friend answered to the charges for the first time.

"I'm heartbroken and angry and sad for her. This is not Crystal and I want everyone to know that," she said.

Little denied our request for an interview from the Fayette County Jail where she remains on a $30,000 bond.

WKYT has learned she was in court just last week on charges she unlawfully accessed a computer.
