Police are looking for two men who shot and robbed a woman outside of a Lexington business.
"She was shot in the leg that's all I know," said the victim's sister, Carolyn Bucio.
Family members of 50 year-old Dennise Stephens rushed to the scene after word spread about what happened.
"They said she was shot during a robbery," said Bucio, "she was cashing her social security check - she's disabled."
Police say Stephens walked in to Discount Tobacco on North Broadway around 7:30 Wednesday night.
She cashed a check and then left.
What she didn't realize was that two men were watching her, and followed her through the parking lot.
"They observed her cashing a check, when she left, they left - followed her and assaulted her," said Lt. Richard Bottoms with Lexington Police.
Authorities say the men shot Stephens in the legs.
"One shot - it went through one leg, imbedded in the other leg," said Lt. Bottoms.
The men then ran away with her purse in an unknown direction.
Police are checking to see if the suspects were caught on surveillance cameras outside the store.
Family members can't believe Stephens was shot.
"She's 50 years old, a little tiny thing, they wouldn't of had to shoot her," said Bucio.
Stephens was taken to U-K hospital.
She was unable to give police a detailed description of the two men who robbed her.
