A woman tried to stop two men from coming into a home late Sunday night and ended up getting shot in the process.
It happened on Gerald Drive, off Winburn Drive, in Lexington.
Police say the woman and a man, who was also in the house, tried blocking a door of the home, so the two men outside couldn't enter.
That is when the men outside started firing shots.
Six shots were fired.
At least one bullet came into the house and hit the woman in the stomach. She was rushed into surgery after arriving at UK Medical Center.
Several small children were in the home at the time, according to officers.
Police haven't made any arrests.
Lexington Police tell WKYT that the victim is now listed in critical condition. They do not believe her injuries are life threatening.
Neighbors we spoke to say they believe the shooting is an isolated incident.
"We are in our own little corner. We have nothing to do with anybody else. They're doing their own things. They have their own problems. We have our own issues. We're working them out in our own house. That concerns nobody out here or guns. So as far as that's concerned, I don't feel unsafe, myself," says Davonte Dixon, a neighbor.
