INEZ, Ky. (WYMT) - Governor Beshear was in Eastern Kentucky this morning welcoming a new company to the area.
The David Brown group is a company based in England that manufactures gearing, and they are now targeting the mining industry in Appalachia.
Local and state officials are excited it is bringing job opportunities to the area.
"This is a great day for Martin County and Kentucky. You know we've worked on this project for almost two years, and it's finally come to be," said Martin County Judge Executive Kelly Callaham.
They joined Governor Beshear and several others in welcoming a new global force, The David Brown Group, to Eastern Kentucky.
"This David Brown company from England is an international player. They're a global leader in these gear solutions and to have them locate here in Martin County is really a coup for us. It puts us on the map," said Beshear.
The company manufactures gear products for industries like mining, and executives say Martin County is the perfect place for them to be with more than 400 mine sites within a 100 mile radius.
"Our key purpose for being here is being close to our customer base," said David Brown Group CEO John Paterson.
David Brown executives say they have hired eight people already and hope to triple that number relatively soon.
Local officials say this is a huge announcement for the area.
"Anytime you have a global company that has an Inez, Kentucky, address it's a great thing," said Callaham.
And they all hope to see the number of jobs filled increasing.
"It's just another step in the right direction for getting Kentuckians back to work," said Beshear.
David Brown executives say this is the first service center they have in the country.
