Woman pleads not guilty to dozens of animal cruelty charges

A woman charged with 46 counts of animal cruelty entered a not guilty plea in Rowan County Monday morning.

Investigators say 58-year-old Patricia Blevins kept more than 100 dogs in deplorable conditions in and around her home near Morehead. Many of the dogs became sick, and others later died.

Police seized the dogs from the home earlier this month.

The arrest warrant claimed most of the animals had evidence of fleas, long nails, dental disease, abnormal skin, ears, and eyes, and were suffering from dehydration.

Investigators say many of the dogs were kept in kennels, with trays underneath.

We're told many of the surviving animals are now being cared for at the Fleming County Animal Shelter. Officials say they're not up for adoption at this point, because they're considered evidence in this case.

Donations for the dogs are being taken at the Rowan County Animal Shelter and at the Fleming County Spay and Neuter Clinic.
