MARTIN, Tenn.—Morehead State men’s basketball survived a late rally by UT Martin to open Ohio Valley Conference play with a 74-66 win Thursday night at the Elam Center.
Junior Kenneth Faried scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Senior Les Simmons and junior Demonte Harper each added 15 points. Simmons was nearly perfect hitting 4-of-5 from the field and 6-for-6 at the line. Senior Brandon Shingles added nine assists.
MSU led by 10 at the halftime, but the Skyhawks (1-4, 0-1 OVC) chipped away at the lead in the second half and pulled within three on lay-up by MJ Brown. Faried responded with a layup and the Eagles were 8-of-10 at the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
“That’s league play on the road,” Tyndall said. “Any road win is a good one.”
Benzon Simmons scored 22 points to lead all scorers and added nine rebounds. Brown had 17 points and Delrico Lane scored 19.
The Eagles will face fellow preseason favorite Murray State Saturday at 8:30 pm ET.
