Many people who lost so much in the recent floods are having a hard time finding anything to salvage. So now, they're starting over.
But a couple in Rowan County says the high water took away something dear to their hearts.
Butch and Debbie Armstrong's dog Hurley is one of the few bright sides to what they have left after the flood.
The Armstrongs have made considerable progress since they started cleaning, but the loss of their beloved cat is something no cleanup can help.
"The water just rushed in so fast that I guess she got afraid and went under the house, and we couldn't get her," Debbie Armstrong said. "It just gushed under the house, and I guess she drowned. So I'm devastated."
Despite their losses, the Armstrongs are grateful for what they can salvage as they prepare for the hard work that lies ahead.
"We got nowhere to go, so we're going to have to fix it," Butch Armstrong said.
