This extreme heat is making it especially tough on firefighters -- even in the middle of the night.
Firefighters in Rowan County had to take extra precautions late Monday night when they were called to battle a house fire on U.S. 60 east.
The fire took hours to fight.
Extra crews were called just to help the firefighters stay cool.
One person was inside the home when the fire started. He awoke to the sound of the fire and escaped without injury.
At one point, firefighters had to go into defensive mode because the fire was so strong.
No one was hurt.
