Low humidity and windy conditions are creating critical fire danger in parts of Kentucky. Freezing weather is forecast for later.
The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for an area that includes the cities of Owensboro, Madisonville and Hopkinsville from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The same dry conditions have caused a similar warning to be issued from noon until 8 p.m. for all of eastern Kentucky, including Morehead, Jackson, Pikeville and Somerset.
With cold temperatures moving south, a freeze watch has been issued for most of the commonwealth that lies east of Interstate 65. It is in effect for late Tuesday night until after sunrise Wednesday.
