Caught on tape, an SUV speeds across a Walmart parking lot then crashes into a rack of propane tanks in front of the building! Morehead Police call it a very close call saying people at the store were lucky there wasn't an explosion!
An early morning joyride turned violent for three people inside a Jeep Liberty.
"Apparently three males, ages 18, 20, 23, for some reason crashed into the side of Walmart near the Lawn & Garden area into the propane area," says Chief Mike Adams with the Morehead Police Department.
The incident is caught on video. You first see the vehicle speed across the parking lot. On another camera you then see it crash into the building, and the propane tanks, which then scatter. That's when the three people inside take off. Police say this vehicle, heavily damaged in the crash, wasn't even theirs.
"I believe the person who owned the vehicle did not know these persons were driving the vehicle at the time," says Chief Mike Adams.
While police say they know who the three people were who were inside, they're still investigating why they crashed.
"We're still trying to figure out if it was medical, intoxicant, or intentional," says Chief Adams.
Either way, they say the three men are lucky nobody was badly injured, that nobody was nearby in the parking lot, and that this was the only damage caused by the crash.
"When you have propane gas it's extremely fortunate nothing happened there in a sense of a fire or explosion," says Chief Mike Adams.
Police say one of the men in the jeep did go to the hospital for injuries he suffered. They also say there may be charges filed for this incident.
