Men's Basketball to Participate in 2012 Sears BracketBusters Event

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State is one of 142 men’s college basketball programs that will participate in the 2012 Sears BracketBusters event. The 10th-annual hoops showcase pits NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other Feb. 17-19, and will feature 13 nationally-televised games.

Contests on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com will be announced Jan. 30. The TV match-ups are selected by ESPN, while a committee of conference commissioners determines all other affairs.

All Ohio Valley Conference programs will be on display for a seventh straight season. Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Murray State and SIU Edwardsville are slated to host games, while MSU, Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin will play on the road.

Sears BracketBusters, named because of the success of the teams in NCAA Tournament play, will provide the 26 televised teams an opportunity to play other top non-conference opponents three weeks before Selection Sunday.

All 71 home teams in the event will play a return game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December 2013.

Sears BracketBusters is part of ESPN's college basketball franchise programming, along with Rivalry Week, Feast Week presented by Lowe's, Holiday Hoops presented by Kay Jewelers, Judgment Week and Championship Week presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.

This year’s pool is the largest in Sears BracketBusters history. The teams will come from 16 Division I conferences across the nation. The Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-American Conference and Southland Conference will each have 12 teams participating.

Morehead State is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history. The 2010-11 Eagles finished 25-10 overall, 14-1 at home, 13-5 in conference play, won the OVC Tournament and upset Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.

Last season also produced a first-round NBA Draft pick as Kenneth Faried was taken 22nd overall by the Denver Nuggets. Faried averaged 17.3 points and 14.5 rebounds while shooting 62 percent from the field in 2010-11. He also tallied 1,673 career rebounds to establish the NCAA modern-era (post-1973) record.
