LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Morehead State and Tennessee State are among six universities that will receive funds in an NCAA pilot program that is intended to improve student-athlete academic performance.
Grants are spread over three years. The recipients are California State University, Northridge; Coppin State; Jackson State; and Tennessee State, which will receive $900,000 apiece. Receiving $360,000 each are Morehead State and Norfolk State.
The schools are also required to match grant dollars with either direct funds or in-kind contributions, 25 percent the first year, 50 percent the second and 75 percent the third.
Morehead State Assistant Athletic Director Sara Larson said the university is already proud of how its athletes perform in the classroom but expects the grant to help them reach even greater accomplishments.
