MOREHEAD, Ky. (WKYT) - Claude Meade, a Vietnam veteran from Morehead, was finally inducted into the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame.
He was supposed to go in, back in March, but an illness prevented him from attending the ceremony.
His daughter, Shawn Justice, says Meade entered the hospital for an elective hip surgery. She says his condition unexpectedly got worse.
"Multiple hospitals. He had cardiac arrest. Multiple medical problems," said Justice.
A special ceremony was held for Meade Wednesday, it was also the first day he was well enough to come home.
Meade spent 29 years in the Army, with two tours in Vietnam. He earned the rank Command Sargent Major before retiring in the early 90s.
His daughter says he continued his service in the community, staying active with the Shriners and American Legion.
"That's been a big part of his life and our lives. He's always taught us to serve others," Justice told WKYT.
