MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Eagle fans will get their first chance to see the 2011-12 Morehead State men’s and women’s basketball teams at Morehead Hysteria on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The event is slated for 7 p.m. ET and will be free to the public. Fans can enjoy scrimmages by both teams, as well as a dunk contest and a three-point shooting contest.
"This event is going to be a great way to launch into the 2011-12 season," said athletic marketing and promotions coordinator Keith Nunn. "Morehead Hysteria will be a fun way for fans to rally around their Eagles this season."
The Eagle men’s basketball team returns five letterwinners, including seniors Lamont Austin, Terrance Hill and Ty Proffitt, from one of the most successful season in school history. The 2010-11 Eagles finished 25-10, tying a school record for wins, while also defeating in-state rival Louisville to advance to the third round of the NCAA tournament. Sixth year head coach Donnie Tyndall also led MSU to the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference tournament crown, the second title in three years and fourth overall tournament championship.
With seven letterwinners back, including four starters, from a 21-win season the 2011-12 MSU women’s basketball team looks to continue the success of second-year head coach Tom Hodges. The Eagles return the nation's third-ranked rebounder in Division I in junior forward Ashar Harris, arguably the OVC's most tenacious defender in senior two-guard Linda Dixon, and one of the most efficient point guards in the league in senior Courtney Lumpkin.
