The Morehead State University Space Science Center’s Star Theater will present a planetarium program “Season of Light” and the laser program “Laser Holiday” in December.
“Season of Light” recounts the historical, religious, and cultural rituals practiced during the time of winter solstice -- not only Christian and Jewish, but also Celtic, Nordic, Roman, Irish, Mexican and Hopi.
The show takes a look at some of our more light-hearted seasonal traditions as well: from gift-giving and kissing under the mistletoe, to songs about lords a-leaping and ladies dancing, and the custom of decking the halls with greenery and candles. St. Nicholas, Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas, and Santa Claus all drop by as well.
Narrated by National Public Radio's Noah Adams and produced by Loch Ness Productions, “Season of Light” is visually rich, culturally inclusive, musically satisfying, and soothing as a warm drink on a cold winter's night.
The “Season of Light” planetarium programs will be held nightly at 7 p.m., followed by the “Laser Holiday” program at 8:15 p.m, Dec. 13-17. On Dec. 18, the show will continue with an afternoon showing of “Season of Light” at 2:15 p.m. and “Laser Holiday” at 3:30 p.m. and an evening show of “Season of Light” at 7 p.m. and “Laser Holiday” at 8:15 p.m.
Planetarium program tIcket prices are $2 for adults and $1 for children and senior citizens, while the laser program tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children and senior citizens.
