MENIFEE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - It's a bit of a curious case at Cave Run Lake, at the Rowan County/Menifee County line, where investigators are now in their second day of searching for a car found underwater.
"As of this time they've yet to have any luck locating such vehicle," said Master Trooper Joe Veeneman of the Kentucky State Police.
On Monday, a man was trolling around Cave Run Lake near the Highway 1274 bridge, when his fish sonar came across an image of the car.
"After that time, we contacted the Rowan County Dive and Rescue team and they were able to get together actually on Tuesday evening, which was last night, and they've been in that location diving trying to locate what we suspect is a vehicle in the lake," described Trooper Veeneman.
However, finding the vehicle hasn't been easy, and even more challenging than that is the question: what's it doing there?
Trooper Veeneman agreed, "It's pretty much crossing the bridge there at the Menifee-Rowan County line and it's just kind of one of those things that's just kind of curious. If in fact it is a vehicle, then how did it get there?"
While investigators want to find the submerged car, they know the find will only raise more questions.
"Quite possibly if they are able to locate the vehicle that will determine which avenue we go down whether it's a stolen vehicle or something like that. We'll just have to follow up on anything once they're able to locate it," explained Trooper Veeneman.
The Menifee County Sheriff added that at this time, and based on the sonar image, the car has been there for quite some time.
Investigators said they put a magnet in the water on Tuesday and it stuck to the car, but it didn't stay,so divers will have to continue their search in this underwater mystery.
