Police say teen attacked for her purse

Kentucky State Police say three people have been arrested for assaulting a juvenile while trying to steal her purse.

Police say the girl was stopped Tuesday just before 6:00pm while on Ramey Ridge Road in Morehead. She told troopers three people stopped her, saying they needed to use her cell phone. The victim then gave them the phone and pulled off to the side of the road while they were using it.

While she was waiting for them to use her phone, police say Gina Sapp and Jessica Hayes approached the car and demanded the victim give them her purse. The victim refused and a struggle ensued in which she was assaulted and sustained injuries to her head and knee.

Police say, during the altercation, another vehicle pulled up to assist and the suspects ran off.

State Police say Jessica Hayes and John Hacker were arrested Wednesday morning at their home on US 60 East in Morehead. Police arrested Gina Sapp at her home on Christian Street in Morehead just after noon.

All three were charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree and lodged at the Rowan County Detention Center.
