Storm victims distracted by basketball

The North Laurel Jaguars and the Rowan County Vikings have made it to the Sweet 16. Many North Laurel fans hope the game will help boost morale for folks in the community. The school's district includes the area of East Bernstadt, hit hard by the March 2 tornadoes.

Rowan County made it to the Sweet 16 last year. Fans say they are hoping the experience will work in their favor this year. It is North Laurel's first time in the tournament. They have a new coach and are hoping to take home the win. Both teams say having success within their basketball teams brings the community closer.

"It kind of just gets your mind off the devastation that happen. It helps to have everyone come out and cheer on Rowan County cause they're doing good so far" said Rowan County student Shelley Deharte.

"It's good for 'em because they've had a lot of tragedy there. The whole community has pulled together as one, and that's the kind of community, we are in Laurel County said resident Alberta Bowling.
