Police trying to track down source of counterfeit bills

Police in Nicholasville are trying to figure out where several counterfeit bills, that have been passed at businesses around the city, are coming from.

In the last two weeks, police say they've received several complaints of fake $20, $50, and $100 bills being passed.

Kroger, Walmart, and Domino's Pizza are among the businesses that reported receiving the money.

Investigators say the $20 and $50 bills are being made from a printer and are of less than standard quality.

Police say the $100 bills are being altered using a different process, and it's hard to tell they're fake at first glance.

Police are asking businesses to warn their staff about the recent rash of counterfeit money, and remind them the process of checking all bills to make sure they're real.

Nicholasville Police say they have made the Secret Service aware of what's going on, since producing counterfeit bills is considered a federal crime.

Nicholasville Police ask anyone who's received counterfeit money, or anyone who has a question about the authenticity of the bills they've seen, to contact them at 859-885-9468.
