A teen camper was killed over the weekend after a freak accident.
Jessamine County Sheriff's deputies confirmed to WKYT that Luke Riddering, 19, was camping with friends in the Brooklyn Road area, near the Mercer County line, when a large rock fell and hit him in the head while he was sleeping.
Investigators say te rock was about the size of a computer printer, and they say this was a freak accident.
"I've been with the asherrif's Department for 23 years and it's a tragic, freak accident;" explained Chief Deputy Allen Peel. "Mt heart goes out to the family."
Riddering's friends found him unresponsive and bleeding from his head when they woke up early Saturday.
He was rushed to UK Hospital, where he died Sunday. Family friends at the Riddering's Nicholasville home tell us there was little that could be done at the hospital to save Luke's life and his organs were donated. They say they know everyone feels better knowing part of him lives on.
Riddering is from Nicholasville and was set to begin college this fall.
