NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - This morning, John Flynn says he woke up and walked into the kitchen to start his day, but something odd caught his eye.

"The door to the garage was open, so I was able to look straight out to the street," described Flynn.

The garage door is down now, but last night that wasn't the case on Brome Drive, and Flynn says it was a simple mistake that turned into a crime of opportunity.

"We were just upstairs sleeping while they were scurrying around through the house," said the victim, "Most of the times we go to bed, we're double-checking that it's shut, and we just missed it last night. It was a bad night to miss it."

Flynn says it looked like the burglar, or burglars, grabbed anything they could and fled.

"My wallet was gone with all of the credit cards, my wife's purse, iPod, PS3," listed Flynn.

"Everything that was stolen could've been carried by one person, we don't know if more than one was in involved, but it was pretty much what they could grab in just a few seconds and be gone," stated Sgt. Scott Harvey, of the Nicholasville Police Department.

Flynn says when he realized his wallet was missing he canceled everything, calling it a big inconvenience, but there is a twist. Police later found Flynn's wallet in Lexington

Flynn says police told him they found his and his wife's wallets outside of another car that was broken into on Henderson Drive.

Still the Flynns say it could've been worse if not for a kid crying in the middle of the night.

"It looks like they may have gotten scared and run off, because some laptops were moved (but) not stolen," figured Flynn.

While the family is shaken by the break-in, they do say they are lucky no one was hurt and that the cards don't appear to have been abused.

At this time, police do not have any leads.

You may remember something similar happened last Thursday at a home on Gilmore Trace, in Lexington's Masterson Station neighborhood. The thief in that case got away with a purse and a cell phone. At last check, there have been no arrests in that case, either.
