School Leaders say their investigation started early Thursday morning after they got word that a female student under the age of 18 told someone East Jessamine High School Assistant Track Coach Gary Overstreet touched her inappropriately.
"I can't give any details about the incident itself, but the report did come from a person at the school," Superintendent Lu Young explained.
According to police, the incident did happen on school property and they arrested Overstreet, charging him with two felony counts of inappropriate contact.
In addition to his role as the assistant track coach, Superintendent Young says Overstreet is a non-certified substitute teacher. She says his role at the high school is providing extra help for those struggling in math. She says she's not aware of any other incidents, and say safety remains the chief concern.
"Our number one priority for our students is to keep our children safe; get them to school safely, keep them safe while they're there to be safe and learning."
Overstreet did bond out of jail Friday morning.
