JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky (WKYT) - Nicholasville police are investigating a threat at East Jessamine High School.

Police were called to the school Thursday afternoon after someone discovered a threat written in a bathroom. Police tell us the threat said, "May 17, school shoot-up day."

Investigators tell us there was no other specific information. Police searched the school and found nothing else threatening.

Parents were notified about the situation by a call from the school principal.
And Friday, Nicholasville Police said they were aware that attendance was down at several schools as a result.

Five police vehicles could be seen in plain sight along the front drive of East Jessamine High School. It's all part of an effort to make sure students and teachers are safe.

"We've got lots and lots of years of experience on this. We've got experts in school safety on staff at the police department. And it's something that we take seriously. And we're doing what needs to be done to protect our kids," said Sgt. Scott Harvey with Nicholasville Police.

Police still aren't sure who's responsible for the threat.
They added right now, that's not the priority. Their focus is on keeping all the schools safe.

Nicholasville Police plan on keeping the increased security measures in place for the remainder of the school year.
