The Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) report on their website that nearly 75% of teenagers have had a drink alcohol before the end of high school, and that's more than just a few sips. Here in the Bluegrass, it's no different, especially in the middle of prom season and with graduation and summer parties around the corner.

"Well I tend to look at my kids as basically being good kids, but then I have one son who tells me how easy it is to get things and I see the temptation," said Heather Yost, a mother or two teenagers.

What makes it more alarming to these parents and leaders, in Jessamine County, is that of the underage drinkers in the S.A.D.D. statistics, many of them report someone else provided the booze. Which is why leaders from Nicholasville and Jessamine County took time to explain a local law, that just turned a year old. It says that any adult, over 21-years-old, that is found providing alcohol to anyone under 21 can be held responsible.

"It becomes a bigger issue for us, when the responsible adult is not being responsible," explained Sgt. Scott Harvey of the Nicholasville Police Department.

This rule has a simple goal, explains Sgt. Harvey, "The idea is to not have underage drinking."

"If other people are listening like I am, then maybe there won't be those opportunities for him to get in trouble in someone else's home," added Sherry Miller, a concerned mother of a teen.

"It gives us one more thing, as parents, to let our kids know that people are held accountable for protecting children, whether it's in our house or other houses," expressed Yost.

A person found violating this ordinance will face a fine of several hundred dollars and possibly 90 days in jail. A second offense will increase the fine and the jail time.

These parents agree that if this rule wipes out underage drinking in Jessamine County then it's a big win.
