Police investigate "suspicious death" of Jessamine Co. man

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - It's a mystery that left his neighbors shocked.

We continue tracking the investigation into a central Kentucky man's death.

Police say the 49-year-old was found dead Friday afternoon inside a home on Elm Fork Road near Nicholasville.

Jessamine County deputies say the sudden death of Dale "Monty" Burgess is being considered “suspicious.”

“At this point, there are more questions than answers,” said Sgt. Larry Oliver with the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.

After hours of investigating, officers couldn’t offer any concrete answers as to how or why Burgess died.

“It’s still really shocking,” said Kate McGuigan, who lived next door to Burgess for two years.

She says Burgess did not have a wife or kids and only lived with his beloved dog, "Rocky."

“His dog Rocky was his child; he would do anything for that dog.”

McGuigan says he mostly kept to himself, but if she ever needed a helping hand, Burgess was the one to ask.

“He took care of a lot of things for me; he mowed my grass and fixed a lot of things in my house. He was just a top-notch guy,” McGuigan said.

She, along with other neighbors we spoke with off-camera, are still in shock over the incident.

“It is just unbelievable; it’s not something you expect.”

But they say, at this point, they're trying to focus more on Burgess' life instead of his untimely death.

Sheriff’s deputies did not want to say why the death is being considered suspicious.
