Police have arrested a man they say was caught on tape stealing security cameras from a Nicholasville business.
Nicholasville Police arrested 24-year-old Nathan Parks of Winchester Thursday. He has been charged with felony theft.
On Wednesday night, 27 NEWSFIRST aired surveillance video, which shows a man stealing several security cameras from MBA USA, Inc. Police say someone who saw the video on NEWSFIRST noticed a man walking around Walmart that matched the description of the man seen in the surveillance video. Police then went searching for him, and found him walking down Main Street.
During an interview in the Jessamine County Detention Center Thursday afternoon, Parks admitted to the theft.
"Sitting there, I just looked up, saw a couple cameras, thought it would be funny to rip them off the wall," Parks says.
He went on to talk about drinking a fifth of vodka, and forgetting about ripping the cameras off the wall until his friends mentioned they saw his picture on the news.
"Here I am, I'm just out walking," Parks says, "one car shoots in this way, then like two more come in from across the street, and I'm like 'OK, what's really going on?' And then they started talking about the cameras and I'm like 'no...yeah, I did it.' People do dumb stuff when they drink."
Parks says once he's out of jail, he would like to repay MBA USA, Inc.
"I'm sorry for what I did, but honestly, if they want to spend $400 on a camera, then I think they should have protected them a little bit better than a couple screws," Parks said.
When asked if he would stop drinking because of this incident, Parks replied, "Probably not. Probably gonna drink inside instead of out running around."
Parks said he's never been in jail for theft before, only for alcohol intoxication.
