Police search for rape suspect

Court documents allege that Ashley Bender raped and sodomized a 15-year-old. She was supposed to answer to those charges in Jessamine Circuit Court in August, but she didn't show up. Now Nicholasville Police are looking for your help in finding her.

"It's not a case that we see every day," says Officer Kevin Grimes.

30-year-old Ashley Bender is facing some serious charges.

"Five charges involving rape in the third degree, couple of charges of unlawful transaction with a minor, two of the charges involve sodomy charges," says Officer Grimes.

Police say Bender had sex with an unidentified 15-year-old boy at a Nicholasville motel on several occasions in June. They say she also gave the boy Xanax, marijuana, and alcohol. Bender was arrested and jailed. She posted bond and was released, but officials say she didn't appear for her arraignment in August. Authorities have tried to find her at several Jessamine county addresses, but have come up empty. Now, they're looking to the public for help.

"We did receive information that she's staying somewhere in Lexington, so we're asking that the public reach out and help us out so we can arrest her and get her into custody," says Officer Grimes.

Police say Ms. Bender would face substantial prison time if she's convicted on those charges.

"These are all felony offenses and all require or have some prison time if she's convicted or pleads guilty to the charges. At minimum, 1-5 years, probably more," says Officer Grimes.

Nicholasville Police say right now Ms. Bender isn't facing any additional charges for her failure to appear.
