Two injured by lightning strikes

Thursday night's storms produced a lot of lightning that proved dangerous.

WKYT has learned of at least two people who were struck by lightning, one in Nelson County and another in Jessamine County.

A family member of Kathleen Friend, 67, tells WKYT she was hit while working on her farm on Crenshaw Lane, in southern Jessamine County.

Friend, who's an attorney in Richmond, is said to be on life support at UK Hospital.

Woodrow Friend says his sister was determined to finish laying pipe on her farm. He says she wanted to get a portion of it done before the storm rolled in,"It hadn't even started raining when the lightning hit. He hit the ground. He looked up and she was flat out and he thinks it hit her directly."

Woodrow says he's numb a day after seeing his sister lifeless on the ground. His concern now is that her son will blame himself, "Before I could see my sister, I could see her son doing CPR. I could see him going up and down with his hands on his chest. I could see that as I went over the rise. I got up there and of course, I thought surely she was dead. Like I said, when I got there she was totally unresponsive."
