NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Around 1:00 AM Wednesday morning two vehicles collided off KY 1980 in Jessamine county.
Investigators say the accident, which occurred on Ashgrove Road, claimed the life of 19-year-old Mackenzie Layne Sayre, of Wilmore.
"The car lost control and struck a 2010 Nissan which was driven by 21-year old Britney Larissa Kennedy, of Lexington," explains Chief Deputy Allen Peel with the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.
Sayre had a passenger in her car, 19-year-old Sarah Smith of Nicholasville.
All three were transported to UK Hospital, where Sayre was pronounced dead. At last check, Smith is listed in critical condition. According to hospital officials, Kennedy has since been released.
"Alcohol is not suspected and the accident Unit of the Jessamine County Sheriff`s Office is continuing the investigation," explains Chief Deputy Peel, "we haven't had an accident in the county within almost two years, now, since December, we've had four. There is no rhyme or reason to why this is happening but we're hoping that roads, such as KY 1980 which have no shoulder, will be expanded in time."
All three women we wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
