Wesley Mullins was just six years old when he was found dead in his grandfather's Bourbon County garage in 2007. Lewis "Buck" Ballard, who was living with the grandfather, was later convicted of the murder. Wednesday friends and family came together to remember Mullins on his birthday.
It's not easy for family and friends of Wesley Mullins. Wednesday on his 10th birthday they're celebrating the young boy taken too soon.
"We don't have him here with us anymore, but we know he's there. Just feeling the wind blow on me now, makes me think of him," says Pamela Jacques, Wesley's aunt.
Mullins is especially not forgotten in the Paris community. Wesley's Place continues to be built in the area where Mullins body was found.
They hope it will be the home of a non-profit organization that can serve families and children.
"We are hoping to finish by the end of the year. We are in serious talks with a group right now about occupying the building," says Pamela Jacques.
As they continue to fundraise for the project and work to occupy the building, they're not forgetting this important day...Wesley's birthday.
It's become an annual event that the community participates in.
"We know he's there and proud of what's happened and would be very happy and in awe of everything everyone's done in Paris for him," says Pamela Jacques.
