Lexington KY, March 12, 2011— Keller Williams Realty associates may be taking the day off on Thursday, May 12, 2011, but it will hardly be a day of rest. Associates with Keller Williams Bluegrass Realty have chosen to “Give Where They Live” as part of RED Day, one of the biggest events in the real estate industry.
Short for “Renew, Energize and Donate,” RED Day was created to unite Keller Williams Realty offices and associates in an international day of service.
As part of the RED Day effort, the Agents of Keller Williams Bluegrass Realty have chosen to spend the day with The Hope Center at 360 Loudon Ave in Lexington. Around 20 to 25 Agents will be volunteering at the Hope Center from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Thursday May 12th. The Agents will be planting a garden onsite and doing Landscaping while also delivering Bed Linens, Towels, Shower Shoes, and Toiletries that they have been collecting for the last month. The Agents have also secured donations of Backpacks and Duffel bags from Southland Christian Church for the guests of the Hope Center.
The Hope Center opened its doors in June of 1993 and was created by a merger of the Community Kitchen and the Horizon Center. During the 1980s, as affordable housing units disappeared and poverty expanded, the problem of homelessness grew, nationally and locally, to the point that it could no longer be ignored. Something had to be done. In Lexington, the Urban County Government formed the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness, chaired by Debra Hensley. The task force studied the problem and issued its report in October 1990. In this report, “By and For the Community,” the task force called for the establishment of a “24-hour comprehensive service facility. The overriding philosophy of this facility should be directed at providing services to all who need them.
“This RED Day event is an entrenched part of the Keller Williams Realty’s culture and displays the extraordinary effect a company can have when individuals come together to work as a team for the greater good of everyone,” said Team Leader, Bo Smith “Last year, our Agents volunteered at The Nest, Center for Women, Children & Families and collected Stuffed Animals for the Lexington Fire Department. To experience the kind of impact it makes on each of us personally to give our time to a worthy Cause and give back to the communities we care so much about.”
During RED Day 2010, over 35,000 Keller Williams associates participated in activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, doing yard work for neighbors in need or revamping gardens at nursing homes totaling more than 150,000 hours of service making RED Day one of the biggest events in the real estate industry.
