A grand jury has indicted a teacher for sexually abusing a student.
The superintendent at Paris Independent schools says Jason Earlywine has been suspended.
The indictment filed at the Bourbon County Courthouse claims the 30-year-old "committed the offense of sexual abuse, first degree, when he, in a position of authority over the victim, subjected her to sexual contact through the use of forcible compulsion" in January of 2011.
According to the Paris Independent schools website, Earlywine has been with the district since 2007, serving as a health and physical education teacher for grades six thru 12. The website also says that Earlywine has been a part of the varsity basketball staff, and the head coach of the boys and girls tennis teams since 2007.
The superintendent tells WKYT Earlywine has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
At this time, Earlywine has only been charged, and not arrested.
