WKYT learned new information early Wednesday about an attack involving a hatchet.
The victim, Chris Mitchell, who was hit in the head with the hatchet, is now in the hospital in critical condition.
The suspect, Daniel Carter, is in custody and spoke to Channel 27 Wednesday morning.
The victim's wife says the attack happened after Mitchell confronted Carter on Townsend Valley Road in Bourbon County about some stolen property late Tuesday.
"By the time i got down the hill all I seen was Daniel swing the hatchet at my husband and my husband hit the ground," said Rosemary Mitchell.
Speaking from jail Daniel Carter says he never stole anything. He admits to hitting Mitchell in the head with the hatchet but says it was in self-defense.
"I picked up the hatchet and I told him, you come near me, I'm gonna hit you. I said that three or four times," Carter said.
According to Rosemary Mitchell, Carter went to the hospital after police deployed a Taser on him after he was found hiding in some hay.
In addition to assault, Daniel Carter is charged with fleeing and evading and resisting arrest.
This isn't the first time Carter has been charged with a serious crime. In 2002, when he was 15, Carter was acquitted of murder after jurors found he acted in self defense when he stabbed his uncle to death in Pensacola, Florida.
