HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - They started by cooking in their backyards more than 15 years ago. Now, they have their own barbeque restaurant in Hazard.
For ten years, Big Blue Smokehouse was only a catering service. It was set up at events like the Black Gold Festival.
Today, at the grand opening of the Big Blue Smokehouse restaurant, one of the owners, Estill Neace, reflected on their journey.
"We took several risks. And we knew they were risks. That's what people can learn. When you want to do something, you do it. There's always positive that can happen. There's always negative. You just got to focus on the positive," said Neace.
Forty-five jobs were created and the owners, Estill Neace and Doug Campbell, say they are hoping to hire more.
Owners say they have been using the same smoker, which is painted blue, since their days as caterers. They say this adds to the flavor.
