CHAVIES, Ky (WYMT) - The state agriculture commissioner was in Perry County Thursday dropping off more than 15 cows at a local farm.
James Comer drove several cows from his farm in Monroe County to a ranch in Chavies.
He says this is the only heifer development operation in Kentucky, and he wants more people to invest in agriculture here in the mountains.
"When I drive around eastern Kentucky, it's shocking to me to see how little agriculture is here. There are so many opportunities to grow the agriculture industry in eastern Kentucky," said Comer.
Comer says the mountains are a perfect place to grow vineyards and orchards.
