HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - Tuesday marked one week since a deadly shooting on the Hazard Community and Technical College campus.

Police say Dalton Stidham shot 53-year-old Jackie "Doug" Cornett, 20-year-old Caitlin Cornett and 12-year-old Taylor Cornett.

While a motive is still unclear, police say Stidham and Caitlin Cornett had a child in common, and they were at the college for a custody exchange.

Dozens of people gathered at the college Tuesday night to remember the three victims during a candlelight vigil.

"It's still pretty unreal. It's just these things don't happen to you, and it's a senseless act," said Patti Lasslo, a family member of the victim.

They lit candles and sang songs on the same campus where the shooting happened comforting each other during a time filled with unanswered questions.

Lasslo says the outpouring from the community the past week has been unreal.

"Their outreach of love and compassion has been very much humbling and appreciated," said Lasslo.

Patti Lasslo says even one week later it still does not seem real.

"Caitlin was a sweet young lady and as a little girl she would come to my house and go trick or treating and things like that. And she always said 'I just want to be a mommy when I grow up'," said Lasslo.

But now she only has the memories of her brother-in-law, niece and cousin.

"God is good, and we get our strength from there. It's going to be a long struggle for my sister. She has given up her husband and her child, and I don't know how we will make peace with it, but we will," said Lasslo.

The three were laid to rest Monday.
