Community standouts honored at Hazard Perry County Civic Night

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Some of Perry County's best and brightest were honored Tuesday at the 62nd Annual Hazard Perry County Civic Night, sponsored by the Hazard-Perry County Chamber of Commerce.

Hundreds packed the First Federal Center on Hazard Community and Technical College's campus to honor some folks who have made an outstanding difference in the community.

Tuesday evening's guest speaker was Jay Box, Chancellor of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Dr. Box talked about education lighting a fire in the region.

"You know the spark that education gives the citizens, to move them forward, to make sure the economy is growing, and you need that education, and Hazard Community and Technical College has been that spark," said Box.

Among this year's award winners, Savannah Kelley was Youth of the Year and Tori Wells was Teen of the Year.

Young Man and Young Woman of the Year were Jonathan and Kristin Collins.

Woman of the Year went to Helen Williams, and Tom Cravins was named Man of the Year.

Also Tuesday, longtime Perry County Resident and real estate developer Roy Drinkard made a $25,000 donation to Hazard Community and Technical College.
