KRYPTON, Ky. (WYMT) “This is from some guy in Japan,” former Krypton postmaster Delbert Eversole said.
“Clark Kent, 39 Lois Lane. That is somebody being cute, I guess,” Eversole said.
Nestled in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky is the name of a town small in size, but super in name.
“He’s pretty smart, he just drew a big super ‘S’ on there, it’s been in more than one country. That worked out pretty good for him, I guess,” Eversole said.
“Somehow it makes it here, with just the word Krypton,” current Postmaster Willie Stidham said.
Although it’s pronounced differently, people can’t help but associate Krypton, Kentucky with Krypton: Superman’s home planet.
Delbert Eversole was the postmaster here for 50 years, before retiring about one year ago. He’s held onto some of these pieces of mail.
“This one card, has been in two or three different countries. I can’t make out all of the post marks, Great Britain maybe, but eventually they wound up here, because this is probably the only Krypton they could find,” Eversole said.
Willie Stidham is currently the Postmaster, and hasn’t received any letters himself, but thinks that could change with the new movie Man of Steel in theaters.
“I’d tell someone I’m from Krypton, Kentucky and immediately get Superman, you’re from the town of Superman. So I just went along with them,” Stidham added.
“This one came from someone in Sweden, he just had a little picture of Superman in there,” Eversole said.
As this tiny town in the heart of coal country is forever associated with the Man of Steel.
