HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – A Perry County business lost thousands of dollars in equipment to a recent burglary.
Employees at the Rental Pro knew something was wrong when they got there Tuesday morning.
“The very first thing when we got here we pulled up to the gate, of course we keep all of those locked at all times, and somebody had already cut the lock off," said store manager Phillip Smith.
They knew they were right when they saw there was merchandise missing from the store.
“it was all pretty much steel brand equipment and also there was a 2002 red Ford pick up truck that was taken," said Deputy Shawn White.
Officials think they used the Rental Pro truck to carry it all away.
Even after losing a total of what police was nearly $18,000, the business will stay open.
“We're going to restock and stay in business and keep going. We feel like we owe that to the community to keep," said Smith.
A job that will not be easy during the holiday season.
“This really puts a strain on us and other employees of the company for this time of the year with the holidays coming up," said Smith.
Police are still searching for the burglars, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police were able to use surveillance video from a neighboring business but no leads came from it.
