PERRY Co., Ky. (WYMT) - Employees at Jabo's Coal River Grill in Hazard said their goal is to make Christmas brighter for laid off coal miners.
The restaurant asked laid off miners to stop by on Wednesday evening, and sign their kids up for their new Christmas program.
Workers said they would like to buy gifts for 150 kids.
Miners were asked to bring their mine card to prove they were laid off.
Restaurant staff said this is their way of helping the community.
"Some people are really struggling and don't know how they are going to do Christmas," said General Manager Sharon Lambert. "Everyone that came in this evening were so appreciative of what we are doing."
If you were not able to come Lambert said please call their eatery at 606-436-5226.
Lambert said Santa Clause will give the children their gifts on December 22.
Family members are invited to eat for free on that date as well.
